“The lights were on in the dark, he goes in, I go in, up on boost, and as soon as I saw the tree go down I cut the light, .058 to .063. It was on the wheelie bar, wheels up, I thought keep going Coxy, don't look back, half track, second gear, 7.6/189mph and I had just won a Pro Street Blown round."
I got into drag racing at an early age. Tony Armstrong was a friend of mine in Carshalton and his father used to fix the automatic transmissions on American cars. It was awesome to see him working on them before he'd go on race them at Santa Pod. We used to go almost every month to watch them race with Tony's going down there to pitch to fix the transmissions. Outside their home were all these cool American cars like Mustangs, Lincoln Continentals, Chevy Impalas.
Watching those cars take off and hit speeds like you have never seen before at Santa Pod was just awesome. We used to see top fuel dragsters, rocket cars and all sorts of amazing machines. I fell in love with drag racing from that point on and am pleased to have carried on that tradition of drag racing in Australia where I now race myself professionally.
