Carl Cox Motorsport Delivers a Standout Weekend at the ANDRA Drag Racing Masters
Some weekends are about results. Others are about progress. At the ANDRA Drag Racing Masters at Sydney Motorsport Park, Carl Cox Motorsport delivered both.
For Carl Cox, the weekend marked a major personal milestone - his first competitive drag race in Australia since February last year, and his first race meeting anywhere after losing more than 40 kilograms. For teammate Joe Gauci, it ended with a hard-earned Pro Mod Masters win.
Together, it made for a strong and successful weekend for Carl Cox Motorsport with a personal best for Carl and Joe's race win.
What Drag Racing Really Comes Down To
At its core, drag racing is simple. Two cars line up side by side, a set of lights count down, and the first car to the finish line wins.
What makes it challenging is that everything happens in seconds. Drivers have to react instantly, control enormous power, and keep the car straight while accelerating faster than most road cars ever will. There’s no second chance on a run - you commit, and you live with the result.
That’s the environment Carl and Joe stepped into on the weekend.
Carl Cox’s Return - And a Personal Best
For Carl Cox, this weekend wasn’t about easing back into racing.
Since his last competitive drag race, a lot had changed. Carl had undergone a major physical transformation, losing over 40 kilograms. Returning to the driver’s seat was about finding out how that change translated on track.
Friday testing gave the first signs. Carl looked comfortable early, building confidence with each run. By Saturday, everything came together.
Carl recorded a personal best run of 5.734 seconds at 249.26 miles per hour, the quickest ET (Elapsed Time) he has ever made in a drag car.
That result mattered.
Not just because it was fast, but because it showed that the work done away from racing, physically and mentally, had paid off.
Carl summed it up after the weekend. “I’ve had a great weekend. Personal best, the crew has been absolutely fantastic, and the car was amazing all the way through.”
Joe Gauci’s Weekend: Persistence Pays Off
While Carl was building speed, Joe Gauci’s weekend followed a different path. Friday testing brought challenges, with mechanical issues forcing Joe and the crew into a late night working on the car. It wasn’t smooth, but the team stayed patient.
As Joe explained later, “We just kept chipping away slowly. We knew it would come.” By race day, the car was ready - and Joe made it count.
Across the racing rounds, Joe delivered strong starts and consistent runs. He and Carl each took a win early, setting up a final race to decide the Pro Mod Masters winner.
Racing Each Other, Racing with Respect
One of the highlights of the weekend was seeing Carl and Joe race side by side.
When drivers know each other well, the racing becomes intense but respectful. Both push harder, knowing the other won’t back off.
Carl described one of their runs as one of his best ever. “Oh yeah, that was spicy. You’ve got to be on your money if you want it against Joe.”
Joe agreed the margins were tight. “I must have won on a holeshot, because Carl ran close to his personal best and we were only a few numbers off.”
It was close racing, decided by fine margins and quick reactions.
The Final Run
In the final race of the weekend, Carl pushed hard at the start and reacted just a fraction too early, ending his run before it really began. In drag racing, that’s the risk you take when you’re chasing perfection.
Carl explained it simply. “I tried to get out as quick as I possibly could. Once I saw Joe go past, I gave it up.”
Joe stayed composed, kept the car straight, and powered through to take the win — securing the Pro Mod Masters victory and the top prize.
Why This Weekend Matters
Looking at the weekend as a whole, both achievements mattered equally. Carl’s personal best showed that he is faster than ever, even after time away from racing and major personal change. Joe’s win showed persistence, teamwork, and execution when it counted.
Together, they reflect what Carl Cox Motorsport is about. Backing people.Doing the work. Racing properly. As Joe put it after the win, “Racing your mate like Carl, with that much respect, it’s good fun.”
Same Mindset, Different Arena
There’s a clear crossover between music and motorsport. Both demand timing, focus, and commitment. When everything lines up, the feeling is the same - complete immersion in the moment.
This weekend showed that connection clearly. No stage lights. No DJ booth. Just noise, speed, and total concentration.
Looking Ahead
The ANDRA Drag Racing Masters wasn’t about a comeback story. It was about momentum. Carl is back racing in Australia. The car is faster than ever. The team delivered when it mattered.
With a personal best for Carl and a race win for Joe, Carl Cox Motorsport left Sydney with confidence, clarity, and plenty to build on. And most importantly, the hunger to do it all again.
