Carl Cox's inaugural FIVE90 Pro Mod drag racing series reaches its finale at Santa Pod this week

When Carl Cox made his very first pass down a drag strip as a 19-year-old at Santa Pod Raceway, few could have predicted (himself incuded) that decades later he’d be returning to the legendary venue at the helm of his own Pro Mod series. Fast forward through a groundbreaking four-decade DJ career, Carl’s deep-rooted passion for horsepower has culminated in FIVE90, his debut drag racing venture.

The inaugural three-round series is gearing up for a dramatic climax with its Season Finale on Wednesday 9th and Thursday 10th September at the Bedfordshire drag strip. The event will serves a the high-octane prelude to Santa Pod's renowned FIA/FIM European Finals, embedding the series finale right into the heart of one of the biggest weekends on the UK drag racing calendar.

Built around a strict 5.90 index under a fast-paced Aussie Format structure, FIVE90 prioritises relentless consistency over a single heroic pass. Day one kicks off with two qualifying runs to establish lane choices before jumping straight into the first race. The second day ratchets up the intensity with Races 2 and 3, culminating in a high-stakes Finals round for the top eight drivers based on cumulative points.

With scoring tied to race wins, head-to-head outcomes, elapsed time rankings, and bonus points for top speed, every run carries immense weight. To sweeten the deal, the series offers no entry fees, a massive £20,000 prize pool per round, and an extra £30,000 fund split among drivers completing all three rounds. That structure has drawn one of the most delightfully eclectic grids in Pro Mod racing.

As the staging lanes fill for the final showdown, Carl Cox himself leads the charge in his trusty Plymouth Barracuda, affectionately known as the "Coxy Cuda", with 299 points. But the title race remains wide open. Swiss veteran Bruno Bader trails by just 31 points at 268, with Andy Robinson (249), Kev Slyfield (223), and John Webster (188) all well within striking distance. With five drivers mathematically in the hunt, the inaugural FIVE90 championship will go down to the absolute final pass.
