Why Phillip Island’s silence will be a heartbreak for current MotoGP fans

If you’ve ever stood on the edge of Lukey Heights, feeling the salt spray from the Bass Strait sting your face while the absolute scream of MotoGP bikes tears through the air, you know that Phillip Island isn't just a racetrack, it’s a cathedral.
But the news is out, and it hits like a flat note. After 2026, MotoGP is leaving the Island. The circus is packing up its tents and heading to South Australia—likely to a street circuit in Adelaide.
We At least have this final year to have one more Grand Prix to appreciate those high-speed sweeps at Doohan Corner and the terrifying plunge down the main straight.
Adelaide might bring the glitz, and they might bring bigger the crowds, but they will never be able to replicate the rhythm of the Island. You can build a grandstand anywhere, but you can't manufacture the soul of a place where the ocean meets the apex.
The statement on behalf of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation roads as follows…
“The Australian Grand Prix Corporation is proud to have delivered one of the world’s most iconic MotoGP events at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit over many years. Throughout that time, Phillip Island has been celebrated by riders, teams and fans as one of the fastest, most challenging and most spectacular circuits on the MotoGP calendar.
The decision not to extend the contract in Victoria is disappointing for us all. Despite this outcome, we remain immensely proud of the legacy this event has built in Victoria. We extend our sincere thanks to our fans, partners, staff and the Phillip Island and wider Bass Coast community, who have helped shape one of the most loved events in world motorsport. We look forward to delivering an exceptional final MotoGP event at Phillip Island later this year.”
